Certificate III in Occupational Health & Safety

This qualification consists of 12 units of competence and can be achieved by attending a training course, through the Skills Recognition (RPL) process OR a combination.

Attending a training course:

Delivered 2-4 days per month over a three month period.  Candidates will then apply their skills learned from this course by completing projects in their workplace.  minimum numbers apply

Skills Recognition (RPL) process:


Candidates who already have the knowledge, skills and experience as a Safety Representative or OHS Assistant are encouraged to apply to AITP to have your current and recent experience recognised through this process.




The Certificate III in Occupational Health and Safety was developed in 2006 for those people who have a part time responsibility for OHS in the workplace, such as Health and Safety Representatives or to provide an entry point into OHS studies for anyone interested in developing their skills in the field of Occupational Health and Safety.

This nationally recognized qualification specifies the competencies required to participate in workplace OHS consultative processes, liaise with others regarding OHS matters, contribute to OHS hazard identification and risk assessment to promote the maintenance of OHS in the workplace, contribute to controlling and/or resolving OHS hazards and issues in the workplace (in order to maintain a healthy and safe workplace).

Candidates generally undertake this qualification because they have a specific interest in this field.  They are usually already performing some occupational health and safety functions in their workplace and/or they are responsible for occupational health and safety in the workplace.
